Three is a magic number

The Germein Sisters from Australia have been compared with The Corrs and will perform at The Cabana in Napier next Wednesday.

A talented Adelaide sister act are making their mark internationally with the debut album Because You Breathe.

Featuring siblings Georgia, Ella and Clara, The Germein Sisters are multi-instrumentalists whose sophisticated pop/folk sound has been compared with The Corrs.

It's not the only link they share with the Irish siblings, Because You Breathe, was recorded in Ireland and produced by Billy Farrell, who has worked with both groups. Jealoustown Studio's Stuart Gray (Sinead O'Connor), also had a hand in the process.

"It was just so incredible being surrounded by such talented people throughout the whole recording process," lead vocalist Georgia told Rip it Up.

"Ireland is a beautiful place with so many beautiful and kind people, and the whole experience was better than we could have ever dreamed or hoped for."

Having toured extensively throughout Australia and Europe, The Germein Sisters will tackle New Zealand in May, stopping off at The Cabana in Napier next Wednesday from 8.30pm.

Georgia pens most of the band's material but her passion for songwriting doesn't end there - after seeing the importance of their work first hand, she forged an ongoing relationship with World Vision as an Artist Associate.

"I travelled to Nepal as a Youth Ambassador with World Vision a few years ago and witnessed extreme poverty first hand. I was deeply touched by the child slaves I met in Nepal, as well as the poverty I witnessed in Africa and Malaysia," she said. "As a result so many of my songs are about standing up and speaking out for the voiceless."

Between the band commitments and aid work, Georgia found time to write and record her debut solo album Take My Hand , which was produced by Ian Pritchett (Angus & Julia Stone) and released in 2010.

Her siblings were equally creative, branching out into side projects, which reflected their various talents.

"Ella's an artist and filmmaker and has her own boutique video production company. Clara loves anything sport-related, including horse riding with our younger brother.

"I have five pet kangaroo joeys that I look after through Fauna Rescue and we also run songwriting workshops at schools. We love sharing our songs, stories, and positive messages, as well as seeing young people get excited about music and songwriting."

Aside from singing, Georgia played piano and guitar; Clara drums and guitar, while Ella picked up bass and electric cello; but it was their stunning three-part harmonies that have captured the imagination of critics worldwide.

Recently the girls won this year's Tamworth Busking Championships, were nominated as Best Pop Artist 2013 in the Fowlers Live Music Awards, and made the Top 30 Artists Across Australia in a First Break Commercial Radio Competition.

The Germein Sisters' live shows have also earned praise from audiences and industry peers.
