You might have heard that Jennifer Lopez is single again.

She and her back-up dancer boyfriend Casper Smart were together for 2 years before their split was announced at the weekend - reportedly two months after they actually called it quits.

It must be difficult being the partner of a megastar and a mogul. J Lo, 44, has come a long way since her In Living Color days.

Last year on the annual Forbes Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the most powerful people in entertainment, J Lo came in at No50. This year, she shot to No1, beating Oprah Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

The self-declared "simple girl" is now hard at work promoting her new album A.K.A and no doubt the couple have been apart more than together of late.

I don't think Casper, 28, was ever going to be J Lo's forever guy. They were all about having fun and I'd guess many didn't take their relationship seriously.

She never stays single for long - after all, she is one of the most beautiful and energetic people in the world and she enjoys a lavish lifestyle. I imagine future suitors are lining up already.

Casper's adoration and energy no doubt invigorated the singer after her marriage to Marc Anthony, the father of her children, foundered. She remains on friendly terms with Marc and reportedly turned to him for comfort after this latest break-up.

Rumour has it that kind-hearted J Lo has told Casper to keep the gifts she bought him during their time together, including a customised truck, two motorbikes and a jeep. Casper seems upbeat, announcing that he wants to pursue an acting career.

It must be hard to find balance in a celebrity relationship, especially if one partner's career is stellar and the other's is not.

Casper always spoke highly of J Lo in public and obviously adored her. As J Lo herself has said: "The heart wants what the heart wants."

She is not one for shooting from the lip about her past loves, so the celeb gossip mill is in overdrive trying to figure out "what went down". Unless Casper writes a book about it (now there's an idea), we shall probably never know. He has been taking his time moving out - there is "loads of stuff" to shift, apparently.

With three marriages behind J Lo and an ever-growing empire ahead of her, I hope some day, her prince will come.

Rest in peace, Rik
One of my fave laughable larrikins, Rik Mayall, has died, aged 56.

Rik was left seriously ill after a quad bike accident in 1998 put him in a coma for several days. He eventually recovered but became epileptic. He was still working until recently.

Rik made me laugh endlessly while watching The Young Ones, Bottom, The New Statesman, Drop Dead Fred and Blackadder.

Gone too soon.
