It's nice to see the almost 20-year-old series Worms make its first appearance on the latest console hardware. Although it isn't worthy of being coined a next (or current) generation game by any means, some touches work very nicely indeed.
Battlegrounds doesn't try to invent the Worms wheel, but picksthe best bits out of previous Worms games and includes them in one package.
For the uninitiated, Worms is a turn-based action/strategy game played from a side-scrolling 2D (or really 2.5D) perspective. You control a team of hilariously characterised worms attempting to wipe out an opposing team using an arsenal of up to 65 weapons and tools. The single player game is short, but it's easy to get bored before the 25 levels are up, mainly because beating the questionable AI offers a hollow sense of achievement.
Worms Battlegrounds is all about multiplayer against other people. It's here that the game shines, and all the effort has been focused into making multiplayer a pleasure.
The game has a plethora of customisation options; it's great fun designing your own clan and changing the look and voices of your worms. Browsing through the various voices you can assign to your worms provides plenty of giggles with its juvenile humour.
