Luke Pell (vocals, synthesizers, turntables) and Brandon Gellar (guitar) are Napier's alternative pop duo An Electric Heart.
An Electric Heart's self-titled album is bursting at the seams with relevant lyrics and 80s-style electronica beats.
The alternative pop duo, comprising Luke Pell (vocals, synthesizers, turntables) and Brandon Gellar (guitar), began playing together as a punk band after meeting at the gym.
Unfortunately their first project didn't get offthe ground, but a shared love of music brought them together again when Pell decided to take his solo studio project, An Electric Heart, to the stage.
Unable to find a suitable drummer, they embraced an electronic sound, which has become their signature.
Tracks differ from Small Town Mentality reminiscent of Good Charlotte in the early 2000s to racy Internet Conspiracy Theories, which offers a new wave 80s electronica vibe.
Party starter The Resistance, with its wind-up instrumental and nod to rock, is a nice surprise near the end of the album and is followed by genre-defying song Breath Fire, which sees the synthesizers take a back seat to Pell's vocals.
In their first public appearance, at the Cabana on Saturday at 8pm, they will take the opening slot for Napier band Detour. Tickets are $10 on the door.
