Top swimming club titles to Enterprise, Comet at summer champs

ENTERPRISE Cars Swim Team and fellow Gisborne club Comet enjoyed a successful Hawke’s Bay Poverty Bay summer championships meeting, which ended yesterday at the Olympic Pool.

Enterprise won the President’s Cup for top club overall and the Herald Aggregate Cup for top club in the 13 and over age group.

Comet won the Junior Aggregate Cup for top club in the 12 and under divisions.

Olivia Corrin and Joshua Taylor-Martin starred for Enterprise. Corrin won the Swimmer of the Meet title awarded to the competitor who achieves the highest FINA (international governing body) points-scoring swim.

Corrin’s 800 metres freestyle on Thursday achieved that. She actually posted the six best FINA points scores over the meeting.

Corrin and Taylor-Martin won their overall 15 years and over age group titles.

Both Gisborne clubs had multiple successes in the various relays. And Gisborne won the male and female inter-district relays against Napier and Hastings.

Comet dominated the younger age divisions, including Jodiesha Kirkpatrick breaking a club record in the nine years and under girls’ division dating back to 1994. Jack Keepa broke two club records.
