Mike Foster won his first Poverty Bay-East Coast Centre title, teaming up with his father-in-law Bruce Easton and brother-in-law Malcolm Trowell to win the Sutherland Automotive centre opening trios final 8-6 against Lois Lamont, Marise Raklander and David Lynn.

Foster has bowls in his blood. His late mother Heather won two national titles — the pairs and triples — in 1997, his uncle Brian White won the prestigious Hawke’s Bay Easter Singles, and his late grandmother Maureen White won her PBEC gold star in the year 2000 for five major title wins.

Mike’s son Matthew Foster is the New Zealand Under-18 year old singles champion, the first PBEC bowler to win this title, and Mike’s younger son Dylan is performing well at local and national level.

Foster’s team got off to a good start to lead 4-1 after three ends; then they were 6-3 up after six ends.

Lynn’s team picked up two points on End 7 and one point on End 8 to make it 6-6 going into the last end. Easton played a great bowl to take the Lynn team’s closest bowl away from the head, leaving Trowell’s team holding the points for the win.

This was Trowell’s 40th centre title and Easton’s 78th. Easton’s first title came in 1977.
