GISBORNE rider Sam Spence, riding Driving Ambition, finished fourth in the Equestrian Sports New Zealand Seven-year-old Series event at the Fiber Fresh Taupo Christmas Classic.
The same combination finished sixth in Category A of the FEI World Jumping Challenge event. Former Gisborne rider Bernard Denton, now of Feilding, rode Whiorau
Ritchie to first-equal place — along with six other combinations — in the Mitavite Six-year-old Series event.
Mystery Creek’s Katie Laurie riding 10-year-old bay mare Dunstan Breeze won the feature of the Taupo classic, the Ultra Mox FEI World Cup class. It was the second consecutive win they had achieved in this class.
They just edged out Taupo’s Helen McNaught-McFarlane and Carnutelabryere by 0.34 of a second in a 12-strong class.
Laurie also finished third on Dunstan On The Point Eve after picking up a single time fault in each round to finish on two faults in the combination’s first World Cup start.
