THE high-flying Freestyle New Zealand team take centre stage at the Eastland Group Raceway tomorrow night and another awesome show of freestyle motocross can be expected.

The team wowed the crowd when they performed at the track last year.

“They put on an awesome display and the crowd can expect another show like it tomorrow night,” Gisborne Speedway Club president Grant MacGregor said.

“We will have their ramps set up in the middle of the track like last time, and they will put on four displays during the night.”

The four riders in the team come from around New Zealand, with one coming all the way from Gore.

“We are really looking forward to their show. It was fantastic last year, MacGregor said.”

The programme tomorrow night also includes streetcar racing.

“We have 16 entered for that at this stage and hope for a final field of around 20,” MacGregor said.

“If we get the 20 cars, we will have a demolition derby so the drivers can finish their cars off with a bang.

“We are pretty confident we will get that number.”

The winner of the “demo derby” receives $500.

“The support programme includes youth minstocks, streetstocks, production saloon and stockcars,” MacGregor said.

“They will all be vying for club points, and the racing has been outstanding across all those four classes this season.”

MacGregor said there could be some cars here from out of town.

“Given the way the weather has been around the country, we may end up with a few extra vehicles. We’ll have to wait and see.

“From our point of view, we are looking forward to being able to stage our meeting after the disappointment of having to cancel the Speedweek event last month.

“I am pretty sure we will be right weather-wise here tomorrow night.”

The gates to the speedway will open at 6pm, and the first race will go at 7pm.
