SWIMMING

Comet Swimming Club recently had a team of 33 swimmers at Napier to compete at the East Coast swimming championships.

A total of 12 clubs were represented at the champs, with Comet having the third-largest team, after Napier Aquahawks and Heretunga Sundevils.

Comet won both the top Junior Club Cup and the Interclub age-group relay.

It was a big effort against reigning champions Napier Aquahawks and was led by age-group winners, eight-under female Morgan-Marie Tamatea and 12-year female Jodiesha Kirkpatrick.

Comet managed to walk away from two gruelling days of racing on top.

Club records were set by Imogen Amor-Bendall in the 100- and 200-metre butterfly.

Jodiesha Kirkpatrick broke the 12-year girls’ 200m individual medley record, which stood for 12 years.
