Work will begin next week to upgrade the mountain bike trails at Whataupoko Reserve.

The project will create new mountain biking trails and upgrade walking and dual-use trails.

Gisborne District Council has been working with Gisborne Mountain Bike Club on plans to enhance these trails.

The club has received funding from Eastland Community Trust and New Zealand Community Trust to complete this project.

Specialist contractors Southstar Trails will start the trail construction upgrades next week. They will take about three to four months to complete.

The hours of work will be between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The park will remain open during this project, with only the trails under construction or upgrade closed. There should be little disruption to park users during this period.
