The Vintage Car Club (VCC) of New Zealand will stage another Daffodil Rally for Cancer later this month and the Gisborne branch will be involved with a rally from the city up to Tolaga Bay.

Club branches from North Cape to Bluff will be involved in the fundraiser, raising money for the Cancer Society of New Zealand.

New Zealand president Diane Quarrie said the inaugural event last year was well supported. “It appears that this year will be even bigger.

“This is a very important event for the VCC of New Zealand.

“Not only does it financially benefit an extremely worthy cause, but also raises the profile of our branches around the country.

“We are also encouraging members of the public to join in the day’s fun and activities.”

Gisborne rally organiser Graeme Revell said those wanting to take part in the Gisborne event should assemble at the parking area on the corner of Roebuck Road and Childers Road from midday for a 1pm departure on Sunday August 26.

“The run will again visit Tolaga Bay.

“Last year we had around 60 cars involved and we hope for the same if not better this year.

“It’s not just for vintage vehicles either. Anyone with any sort of vehicle can take part,” Mr Revell said.

“The more the merrier!”

The Gisborne rally raised around $900 last year for Daffodil Day.

“We don’t mind if people do not go all the way up to Tolaga Bay and back.

“As long as they pay their $10 to enter and assemble at the start they drive as far as they like.”

Last year the event raised $40,000 nationally for the Cancer Society, with money raised in Gisborne staying here.

All events aligned with it take place on the same day.
