A WAIRERE Road resident at Wainui has warned the beachside community that thieves have been active, after her property was targeted.

She has warned the community to be vigilant, look after home security and report any suspicious activity to police immediately.

Thieves broke into a toolshed on her property.

“They smashed the lock to get into the shed and stole garden tools and power tools,” she said.

“Down the road a car was stolen so it could possibly be linked, because they would have needed a vehicle to remove the amount of gear taken.

“It's a reminder that there are people out there who will get desperate and do this type of thing,” she said.

“Take care everyone and make sure your properties are very secure.

“Ours was but it didn't stop them.”

Police said they had not noted an increase in burglary activity across the district so far.

“There has not been a lift in burglary offences,” a spokesman said.

“In fact, it's the opposite.

“There was one instance in Wainui and the associated vehicle interference, as reported.

“We did get a report of suspicious activity, persons running through a yard, but that's the sum total of property offences in recent days.”

Meanwhile, police are investigating the burglary of a house in Northcote Road yesterday afternoon.
