Tairawhiti chopper called to BoP crash

The Trust Tairawhiti rescue helicopter was called out last night to assist at the scene of a vehicle crash at Minginui near the Whirinaki Forest Park in the Bay of Plenty.

Tairawhiti's rescue chopper was mobilised at around 7.20pm last night.

“There were two young women injured in the crash,” a chopper spokeswoman said.

When the Tairawhiti crew arrived the Greenlea rescue chopper from Taupo was already on the scene.

“Both crews were assisted by St John and local volunteer firefighters.

“Once both patients had been stabilised we and the Greenlea crew flew the women to Waikato Hospital for further treatment,” the spokeswoman said.

“One of the women had sustained critical injuries,” police said.

“The other person had serious injuries.”
