Stop/go at times for traffic at Gladstone Road bridge

The Gladstone Road bridge will be down to one-lane traffic again tomorrow.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and are asked to avoid the bridge if possible.

New Zealand Transport Agency advises the bridge will be reduced to one lane with stop/go controllers in place from 7am to 1pm tomorrow.

The traffic disruption is necessary to allow contractors involved in the bridge widening project to install more concrete slabs that make up the widened bridge deck.

Tairawhiti Roads general manager Dave Hadfield said there would be delays in the surrounding area.

“Please be prepared for delays on Wainui Road, Customhouse Street and Childers Road while the stop/go traffic management is in place.”

Mr Hadfield said the contractors planned to close one lane up to five more times between now and the end of the project to safely complete construction.

The New Zealand Transport Agency this morning advised that traffic controls at the scene of the fatal Tatapouri truck and car crash last Saturday would now be in place tomorrow, not today as originally announced.The stop-go traffic controls would be in place there from 10am tomorrow until 2pm.

It will allow police to conduct a detailed scene examination as part of their serious crash inquiry.

The coast highway remained open as normal today.
