After a 27-day mini-drought, the Gisborne district can expect wetter, cooler weather from tomorrow evening, for about the next week.
The last significant rain fell on March 12 and 13, with only a few thin showers amounting to 11.2mm since then.
However, the MetService forecast for the next ten dayshas a turn to cooler weather with showers, with the first drops arriving tomorrow night.
No heavy rain is in the forecast, but the light to medium showers will help with vegetable crops and ground which is very dry in some places on the Flats and Coast.
The daily climate charts of the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa) show the East Coast and virtually all of the North Island has had only 5 percent of its normal rainfall over the past month, but has had 125 percent of normal sunshine.
The soil moisture deficit is worst in the Wanganui area, with Gisborne-East Coast close behind.
Soils north of Gisborne along the coast to the top of East Cape are particularly dry, so the change in weather will be welcomed by crop and pasture growers alike.
