Tony Robinson has been elected to Gisborne District Council with 4777 votes, making him the sixth-highest polling city ward candidate.

He has also been elected to the district health board, Hauora Tairawhiti.

“It feels good,” he said.

“I’m excited about the new roles.”

The unsuccessful mayoral challenger in 2016 was in Japan on business when the results came out.

“I’m just a little stuffed to enjoy it at the moment as I had just three and a half hours sleep as I tried to rebook our flights from Hokkaido to Tokyo in the wake of the typhoon.”
