Playground lake source for FENZ

FIRE and Emergency New Zealand staff have been filling their water tankers from places like the Adventure Playground lake as they do their bit during the city's water crisis.

They have also been drawing water from a storage tank at the Eastland Fire base at Makaraka.

“We've taken a few loads out of the Adventure Playground lake, water we've used for washing down our appliances,” a senior firefighter said.

“We've been doing that since the water crisis began, to play our part in conserving the city's drinking water.”

■ Fire crews spent a lot of time yesterday pumping water off properties at the western end of Gladstone Road area following the weather deluge overnight on Monday.

“We had a couple of crews involved in doing that,” the senior firefighter said.

“Houses in places like Albert Street and Steed Avenue. We were at one place for a couple of hours.”
