Opinion

Is it time to incentivise people to have water tanks on their property again, to collect their own water? Say a 10,000 litre tank costing about $2000 plus taps, valves etc and installation extra. This will give people some reassurance of having water at all times, even when pipes are broken.

The city water system can be metered and you pay a small cost for what you draw from the reticulated water supply. No use, no cost — user pays . . . and good safety back-up.
