Labour MP Kiri Allan has organised a virtual series called East Coast Town Hall.

The first meeting airs live tomorrow at 8pm on the MP's Facebook page.

“East Coast Town Hall is a digital series bringing our community together and giving space to essential discussions during a time when we need community more than ever,” Ms Allan said.

The theme for the first episode is Budget 2020 and its impact on the East Coast — what is really needed in a Covid-19 recovery?

“Following the Government's announcement last Thursday, a lot has been discussed. You've heard the key points, but what does this all really mean for people's lives?” she said.

“I want to put the Budget announcement in context, make sense of the big numbers and understand what it means for us folk here in the mighty East Coast.”

Panelists on tomorrow night's show will include New Zealand Law Society president Tiana Epati, Ngati Porou East Coast Rugby Union president and Pango Productions chief executive officer Bailey Mackey and Trust Tairawhiti chief executive Gavin Murphy.

Ikaroa-Rawhiti Labour MP Meka Whaitiri will be helping host the virtual town hall meeting.
