AN action plan intended to boost Gisborne’s economy will be released next week alongside a new government report aimed at boosting the economic fortunes of Tairawhiti Maori.
The office of Economic Development Minister Simon Bridges yesterday confirmed he and other Government Ministers will be in Gisborne on Tuesday for thelaunch of the Tairawhiti Economic Action Plan, which is part of its Regional Growth Programme.
“The action plan represents a partnership between central and local government, business and Maori, and their shared commitment to ensuring that Tairawhiti thrives”, Mr Bridges said.
“The plan has been developed by Tairawhiti people for the community and led by the Tairawhiti Action Plan Governance Group. The group was chaired by Gisborne District Council CEO Judy Campbell and included representatives from iwi, business, council, and community and development organisations.”
Mr Bridges was “especially delighted” the plan was being launched with the Tairawhiti Maori Economic Development Report, which focuses on a Maori economic perspective.
“This demonstrates the desire for a regional approach to economic development and to recognise that Maori have a critical role to play in boosting economic growth.”
Although no details of the Tairawhiti action plan have been released, a similar plan for Hawke’s Bay launched last year included a $25 million roading package.
