A “rock concert” featuring paint brushes as instruments was enjoyed at a free community and family friendly event at the Botanical Gardens yesterday.

Hine-Rotu Taylor set up a free rock-painting event for children and families through Facebook community page Gizzy Rocks.

Whānau turned up over two hours to give it a go, with rock-painting equipment provided.

“There were about 50 to 60 people in all,” Hine said.

“People could paint whatever they wanted to on the rocks.

“Varnish was available and people had the option of keeping them or hiding them in the park for others to find and keep or re-hide.

“It's my first time doing it in public,” Hine said.

“I usually just paint and hide rocks as a hobby but I thought since today was going to be sunny, I'd see if anyone else wanted to join.”
