A109 Light Utility Helicopter flight with mayor Gisborne City from the air in November 2023.
The fire service and rural firefighters dealt with a small fire in driftwood last night at the mouth of the Waipaoa River. It is believed to have been started by embers from a bonfire.
The fire crews were called out just after 6pm.
“The fire involved about 40 square metres
of driftwood but it was fairly contained, which limited the spread,” a fire service spokesman said.
There have been several fires like it in that area in the past two months.
A restricted fire season came into force in Gisborne and Wairoa this morning.
