Mt Maunganui's Alex Dive (pictured by PhotoCPL) remains on course at the national surfing championships in Dunedin after a strong showing in 2m surf yesterday.
Dive was second in his open men's heat and moved through to the last 16 surfers, where he's up against the Quinn brothers, Maz and Jay,
and Raglan's Luke Hughes.
New Zealand representatives showed their class on day two, progressing to the quarterfinals.
Keone Campbell (Taranaki), Morehu Roberts (Gisborne) and Luke Hughes (Raglan) surfed to big wins as the event moves through to the final stages over the last two days of the event.
Campbell was the day's highest-scoring surfer along with day one standout Richard Christie (Mahia), with both scoring 14.0 out of a possible 20 points to win their heats.
Defending national champion Billy Stairmand (Raglan) won his heat. His quarterfinal match-up is one of the toughest of the four, Stairmand being pitched against Mt Maunganui's Tim O'Connor, Christie and Leon Santorik (Raglan).
Mount's Nick White is also through.
