Otumoetai Swimming Club's George Williams was the standout performer, securing three bronze, a silver and a gold medal in the 100m backstroke at the New Zealand junior championships in Auckland.
Williams also broke two Bay of Plenty records in the 100m freestyle and the 200m medley events for 11-year-old boys.
Otumoetai sent
16 swimmers to the nationals - the largest team from any club outside Auckland and Wellington. All swimmers performed with enormous pride representing the Bay of Plenty, and in the process reached an 82 per cent personal best swim rate.
Otumoetai swimmers who beat their personal best by more than four seconds included Daniel Miller, Harriet Cairns, George Williams, Georgia Hacker, Willam Mercer, Joshua Pickett, and Kate Bradley.
Hamish Miller beat a personal best time in the 400m medley by 15.27s.
Top 10 national rankings were achieved by Samantha Carter, Harriet Cairns, George Williams, Joshua Pickett, Kate Bradley, Danielle Spreadborough and Alice Williams.
Otumoetai's head swim coach, Stefan Swanepoel, was pleased with his team's showing. "The team has been talking about the nationals for many months. To see them achieve their own goals was satisfying."
