Fittingly, the Belarusian gymnast Vitaly Scherbo - known for having no weak event - is the role model for an 11-year-old Bethlehem boy set to score well in all six disciplines at this weekend's gymnastics qualifier.
This weekend's event at Argos Gym is important because it is the first of four qualifying competitions at which Joshua Ormrod will need to score well in order to be selected to compete at the nationals in September.
Joshua has been competing for a few years and was eager to describe the decision to enter his first competition.
"I've never forgotten this moment," he said.
His father, Dean, had pointed out a poster for an upcoming men's gymnastics competition and suggested he enter.
"I was nervous. I thought it was too hard. But then Dad said 'come on', and I said 'all right', and I did it."
Joshua has been competing ever since and although he didn't succeed first time round, it wasn't long before his trophy cabinet was filling up.
He has gone on to win a number of regional titles and, last year, secured a second place medal at the nationals for the pommel horse.
His favourite events are the pommel horse and high bar, and even though his weakest event is in the floor routine, he said he was still "pretty good" at that.
The results back him up.
At his last competition, in Taupo against others from the wider Waikato/Bay of Plenty region, Joshua won all six events at his level and the overall gold.
The Taupo event was unusual in that it awarded medals for individual events and not just to the top three places overall.
He said he saw other boys getting the medals in lower levels and set his mind to winning gold in all seven.
"I thought to myself, 'wouldn't that be great?"'
The next thing he has set his mind to is placing in the top 10 overall at the nationals, even though he said he knew it was a "big ask".
Mum Raewyn says a top 10 ranking at nationals will be an achievement because Josh will be competing against gymnasts from around the country, some of whom train 20-plus hours a week - compared with Joshua's 12.
After the nationals, Joshua said he would like to try to make it to the Australian nationals "and then see where it goes from there".
Despite his heavy training schedule, and the under-14s representative cricket he plays for Bay of Plenty, Joshua's enthusiasm for gymnastics is hardly waning.
"Every day when I get up I get to go 'I'm looking forward to tonight'.
"I get to try new things and that's what I love to do."
