The cause of death of the 46-year-old Tauranga woman who died in front of Yatton Park on Wednesday remains unknown.

St John district operations manager Jeremy Gooders said the ambulance crew arrived to find the woman in cardiac arrest and that they were unable to resuscitate her.

''We don't know the cause of the event,'' he said.

Tauranga Police Acting Senior Sergeant Mark Holmes said the woman was with work colleagues when she collapsed.

The death was not suspicious and has been reported to the coroner, he said.
