Runners and walkers who enjoy climbing Mauao will now be able to quench their thirst after a new water station was installed this week.
The water station, near the base of Mauao and the Mount Maunganui Surf Lifesaving Club, has a drinking fountain and two bottle refill taps.
Tauranga City Council says the station provides unfiltered, high standard Aa grade drinking water. The water does not need to be filtered due to its high standard.
The facility also encourages waste reduction by providing an opportunity for people to refill bottles rather than buying throwaway options, with a "choose to reuse" message.
The station was made possible by a partnership approach. Key sponsors include the council, BECA, ChemChek and Aquafil NZ, along with City Care who completed the installation, and Fuel Advertising who gifted the design work time.
