Fraser Cove carpark will be packed with bikes rather than cars today, with the Nitro Circus style stunt-fest for Cure Kids coming to town.
BMX rider Jed Mildon, who completed the first BMX quadruple backflip in 2015 and is a former Tauranga resident, said it was the third year ofthe event.
"It's basically an excuse for us to have fun and raise money for kids. Last year we got about $16,000, and have been averaging that each year, so hopefully we can get around that again.
"We raise money for Cure Kids through auctions, then we have a lot of the proceeds of Worlds End Bar, and then all of the athletes do it for free and the majority of people working here are volunteers," he said.
Mr Mildon, who once lived on Oceanbeach Rd, said it was great to be back in the Bay.
"I'd ride every other day in Bayfair/Arataki, I lived down the road and also had a backyard ramp and my friends have dirt jumps up in Summerhill, which is half way between the Mount and Papamoa. It's incredible, it's all handmade jumps which took 12 years to perfect to the level it's at. I was here last weekend riding them."
He said the increase in younger BMX riders was great for the sport.
"When I was younger here, there was predominately older riders, and I was more the younger rider. It was great because I always had role models and people to look up to, to help push the next generation.
"And now coming back to Tauranga in the last few years I've just seen this whole influx of young riders and it's just been changing the game for everyone really. It keeps everyone on their toes and keeps everything exciting. There is a lot of talent."
The talent on show today would be just "one level down" from Nitro Circus.
"There will be backflips, frontflips, 360. It's going to be amazing this weekend.
"If you like what you see here and you want to see the next step in entertainment in action sports, come to Baypark and watch Nitro Circus live in two weeks' time, it's a truly special event
"It's the pinnacle of action sports. For me to be travelling around with them, doing what I love is a dream come true. I'm very lucky."
