The quintessential Kiwi accent is a special thing - so special the people behind an international GPS unit company have launched a nationwide search to find the new "voice of New Zealand".
The people at TomTom GPS plan to set up a recording booth in Bayfair shopping centre between 3pm and 5pm today, where people are encouraged to give it a whirl.
The voice with the most Kiwiana flair will be immortalised in a special New Zealand option on the GPS devices.
Nick Saisanas, marketing communications manager for TomTom New Zealand and Australia said they were on the hunt for a true blue Kiwi accent, with all the quirks and sayings New Zealand is famous for.
"New Zealanders have a unique accent with an original vernacular that is hard to replicate or imitate," he said.
"New Zealand's TomTom GPS users have previously said that the New Zealand voices don't currently sound as 'Kiwi' as they should. So we want to change that. We want to hear an authentic and iconic Kiwi accent come out of the woodwork and be the new voice of New Zealand for all TomTom GPS users."
Typical Kiwi sayings such as "sweet as bro", "yeah, nah, yeah, nah" and "choice" are expected to be used once the new voice is discovered.
TomTom already have the voices of Homer Simpson, Mr T, John Cleese and Snoop Dogg directing people in the travels.
There are TomToms to giveaway and the overall winner not only receives the glory of being "the Kiwi voice" as well as a Suzuki Swift RS.
