Google has unveiled a three decade time lapse of the earth's surface and the changes in Tauranga since 1984 are amazing to see.
The Google Earth Engine team created Timelapse which allows people to see a zoomable video of a particular area on the surface of the earth, showing clearly Tauranga's expansion in the last 32 years.
Google combined more than 5 million satellite images collected over the past three decades by five different satellites.
The website said the majority of the images came from Landsat - a joint USGS and NASA earth observation programme.
Visitors to the site could search, pan, zoom and explore Timelapse.
The video for Tauranga showed the incremental ways people were sprawling across the land.
The footage of Mount Maunganui showed houses vying for space, and to the east of Tauranga, the video showed Papamoa growing bit by bit.
Other spectacular locations around the world to check out include the Shirase Glacier in Antarctica, Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States, Poopo Lake in Bolivia and the Aral Sea.
