Armed police are being reported on Cambridge Rd in Tauranga.

A reader has phoned in saying armed police have blocked off the road near the Waihī Rd roundabout.

Ōtūmoetai College has also emailed parents saying they have “just been advised by NZ Police that they are conducting an operation in the Ōtūmoetai area, which may impact traffic and increase travel times for parents picking their children up from school.

“A particular area to avoid would be the Cambridge Rd/Waihī Rd/Ōtūmoetai Rd roundabout.”

This is the second time in four days that police have conducted an armed operation in the area.

On Friday, a police operation in the Ōtūmoetai area was expected to cause traffic delays for parents picking up children from schools.

Letters sent to parents from Ōtūmoetai Intermediate and Ōtūmoetai College said police were conducting an operation.

A police spokesperson confirmed the operation “appeared to be a pre-planned search warrant”.
