It was a supermarket-bought hot chicken that lured Pixie the cat home.
The 1-year-old cat could not resist the sound of the crackling plastic bag her owners tempted her with as she was finally caught at a Matua Rd property on Sunday.
Pixie had been missing for nearly two weeksafter she escaped from the Tauranga Cat Hotel on December 27.
Three cats; Pixie, Bella and Wesley have all been reunited with their owners after the mischievous trio squeezed through a security screen then made their way out of a wooden shutter window at the cat hotel.
Tauranga Cat Hotel co-owner Lisa Lyons said Pixie's owners were not too concerned about her disappearance because she was a stray cat for the first four months of her life.
"I think she was having a great time, she was catching birds, drinking out of the swimming pool and hanging out under the boat. She even looked fatter," Lyons said.
The owner of the Matua Rd property, where Pixie was found, had not realised the cat was missing so it is likely Pixie had spent most of the two weeks living at the property, Lyons said.
There had been a $500 reward on offer per cat for any information that would lead to their return.
"Everybody who helped us find the cats didn't accept the reward. Everyone said they only helped because they wanted to see the cats home safely," Lyons said.
Flowers were sent to thank all those who helped find the three cats and the Lyons family were relieved to have all the cats back with their owners.
"I actually had a good night's sleep last night," Lyons said.
