Further information has been released about a manhunt that spanned around four hours and lead to four separate Tauranga properties today.

Police were called to a Bethlehem address about 8am this morning after reports of a male who was armed with a knife attempting to force his way into an property, said Senior Sergeant Rob Glencross said in a statement.

Senior Sergeant Glencross said the man left the property before police arrived at the scene.

Inquiries led police to an address in Te Puna where AOS staff were called to search for the man who again had left before police arrived.

An address in Merivale was searched before the man was located around midday at a Gate Pa address, said Senior Sergeant Gelncross.
