Tauranga is also happy

Tauranga is joining the thousands of cities around the world to create its own music video for Pharrell Williams' 'Happy' song, today.

The original music video was made 24 hours long, with the four minute song repeated, and showed people dancing in the streets of Los Angeles.

Since its release, thousands of cities have made covers of the video and posted them on YouTube naming them "Happy (we are from Tahiti)" or "Dublin is also happy".

Rise Up Tauranga member Rosalie Crawford said the group had caught on to the YouTube trend and wanted to make their own version.

"Tauranga is a happy city so we thought, lets do it," she said.

Originally formed to support people who had moved from Christchurch following the earthquakes, the group also assisted in the Rena clean up and focus on bringing people together during hard times.

Filming will be going on all weekend at various locations around the city and the group are looking for about 50 people to take part.

Filiming began this morning with people dancing and rollerblading around Mount Drury at dawn and will be at Salisbury Wharf at 11am and Pilot Bay at midday.
