A 60-year-old Tauranga woman was taken to hospital after the truck she was driving rolled on Te Puna Station Rd about 2.15pm today.
Te Puna Station Rd remains closed from Te Puna Rd to Clarke Rd, causing severe traffic delays for motorists.
The tanker rolled onto its side after going around a
45 degree left-hand corner. The cab remained on the road and the trailer unit slid into the ditch.
The truck was carrying sludge and waste oil from ships. The impact of the crash ruptured the side of the trailer, which saw the contents of the trailer leak into the waterway beside the road.
Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported the woman to Tauranga Hospital.
Firefighters are currently working to remove the trailer from the ditch. A large digger is also at the scene and is being used to lift the tanker out of the ditch.
