What's in a name of a band?
People might say, when it's The Choons, it's humorous, reminds you of something silly perhaps, or could mean the music and fun-loving musicians in it. That's what The Choons' members Katie, Dries and Honza would like to think.
The Choons are all internationalartists from Australia, South Africa and the Czech Republic. They have been embracing New Zealand life for over a year performing in and around Auckland, at charity events, bars and restaurants, weddings, Christmas parades and at Prana New Year's Eve Festival - and that's all in six months.
Originally from North Queensland Australia, Katie Richards is the singer/ songwriter and guitarist in The Choons.
The amazing double bass player is Dries Naude and the third member of the trio is Honza Techl, a professional pianist from the Czech Republic.
Among Katie's folk, indie, reggae originals, they enjoy covering artists such as REM, Angus and Julia Stone, Van Morrison, Mumford and Sons, Sade, Foster the People, The Doors and many more.
Katie and the boys have had a busy six months, and this week is no different as they play three times around Tauranga. You can catch them at Zeytin Cafe´, Mount Maunganui 6- 8pm Thursday, Mount Social Club 7.30pm-10.30pm Friday and Brew Pub Tauranga 9pm till midnight on Saturday.
