Murder-accused Murray Tait will defend the allegation at his trial set down to begin in Hamilton in June.
The 45-year-old Tauranga man is accused of murdering his 76-year-old father, David Tait, who was found severely beaten on June 22 at the 15th Ave home they shared.
Mr Tait senior died in Tauranga Hospital the following day.
Police said at the time a weapon was used but would not reveal the type.
His son, who was originally charged with assaulting his father, was charged with murder on June 29.
Tait, who was committed to trial in Tauranga District Court last month, made a brief appearance at a callover hearing in the High Court at Rotorua yesterday during which his trial date was set to commence in the High Court at Hamilton on June 27.
The trial is scheduled to take seven days. Tait was further remanded in custody.
