Section of Tauranga Hospital car park closed during works

From the morning of November 11, one section of the Tauranga Hospital Cameron Rd, Patient/Visitor car park will be closed for three weeks.

The area will be coned off from late November 10. This section of the car park will re-open to the public on November 30.

As per previous notifications, during this time patients and visitors to Tauranga Hospital are encouraged to use the Clarke Street car park.

The work, to install a Lamson Tube system, has been underway since Monday 12 October with work scheduled to cause minimum disruption to the public.

The system is being laid in the ground from Tauranga Hospital to the new PathLab Building on the 17th Avenue side of the hospital campus.

"The earthworks are being undertaken in phases, as it's important we keep disruption to a minimum for everyone," said CEO Phil Cammish.

"We do encourage visitors and people coming to appointments in the hospital to go to the Clarke Street car park first," he said. "You can get to the Clarke Street car park from either 17th or 20th Avenues."

What are Lamson tubes?

The Lamson Tube system, which originated in 1881, is a system of transporting items around organisations using pneumatic tubes and compressed air.

From January 1 to October 7, 2015, the Tauranga Hospital Lamson system made 200,147 carrier movements.
