Sand dune vegetation on fire

Two children were seen acting suspiciously around an area of sand dune vegetation which caught fire along Papamoa Beach Road about 9.40 this morning.
Mount Maunganui Fire Brigade station officer Lindsay Nicol said the blaze destroyed an area of knee-high vegetation about 30 metres by 30 metres in size.
He said some passersby told a firefighter they had seen two kids " looking a bit suspicious" and running away from where the area where the fire started, near the intersection of Grant Pl.
Police were at the scene investigating the cause of the blaze.
