Four children suffered critical injuries when the car they were travelling in collided with an oncoming truck near Kawerau today.
The Tauranga based TrustPower TECT rescue helicopter was called to help transport the children to hospitals across the North Island.
The helicopter flew a six-year-old girl to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition,
suffering head and chest injuries.
The Taupo based Youthtown rescue helicopter and the Rotorua based Baytrust rescue helicopter also flew critically injured children to Waikato and Rotorua hospitals respectively.
