Hudson, a 3-year-old pug with a killer personality, has been named as The Bay of Plenty Pet of the Year.

An overwhelming number of entries were submitted, but only 130 pet pictures could be published in the Katikati Advertiser, Te Puke Times and Bay News on November 5.

Almost 1000 public votes were then cast, with only four votes between Hudson and the next contender at final tally.

Bay of Plenty Times classified sales manager Tara Childs said they were inundated with gorgeous pet photos.

"The creativity in the photos was incredible to see, with the different camera angles and all the different poses," she said.

"But Hudson's image really topped them all - just his expression in the leaves was priceless."

Hudson and his owner, Jessica, received a prize pack worth $500 including a voucher from Bostock Butchery, a camera from Life Pharmacy Te Puke and pet stay vouchers from Pawprints.
