The Titos were among the crowd of at least 800 port family members who passed through the gates for the Tauranga Port Community Safety Day on Saturday.
Anton Tito, who has worked for Mount Maunganui-based transport firm NZL Group for two years, said Saturday's event gave him a chance to share
his world with his children.
"It's pretty hard to get kids on the port and kids just love machinery, he would sit here all day," said Mr Tito, pointing to his 5-year-old son Kyarn. For his daughter, Trenyce, 7, the highlight of the safety day was a ride in a truck.
The pair also had the chance to explore the engine inside the Port of Tauranga tugboat and watch log and container handling displays.
The Tauranga Port Community Safety Day, which aimed to increase awareness around health and safety at the port, was a first for the industry in New Zealand.
Port of Tauranga chief executive Mark Cairns said the day had been a huge success and the port was considering opening the event to the general public next year.
