Forgive my ignorance but the Royal wedding was more of an event than I had anticipated.
Unless you have been living under a rock, you will be aware Prince Harry married Hollywood star Meghan Markle on Saturday night our time.
I had friends who were recreating their own wedding cakes, wearing their own wedding dresses, attending or hosting Royal wedding-themed parties and eagerly waiting to watch the ceremony, who was attending and what Markle would be wearing.
Social media was packed with celebrities sharing photos of themselves in their own wedding dresses too and my timelines were filled with friends celebrating the occasion.
I didn't even know this was a thing and, instead of attending these social events, I sat on my couch, struggling to stay awake.
Is it me or was the latest wedding a bigger spectacle than that of Wills and Kate? It seemed that way to me.
I didn't watch the whole thing but did wake up during parts - I got to see the excitable facial expressions from the 7-year-old pageboy helping to carry Meghan's train (a highlight for me) and the passionate, but long-winded message given by Bishop Michael Curry (and the interesting facial reactions showcased by the guests).
It amazes me how invested people are in the Royal family. Many people remember exactly where they were at the time of each royal wedding that has occurred - it's admirable, particularly because I barely remember what I did last weekend.
Surprise, surprise I can't remember a lot from the 2011 wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. I remember the kerfuffle around Pippa Middleton and I remember the visuals of the wedding as a whole but I don't remember this much effort going into celebrating that wedding as much as Harry and Meghan's.
I do know for a fact however, my friends were not attending or hosting royal wedding-themed parties back then as they were on Saturday night - had I actually thought about it more, I probably would have gone too and possibly stayed awake to watch it all.
