A Mount Maunganui backpackers has taken the crown for best accomodation in New Zealand.
Pacific Coast Lodge and Backpackers received the award for Best Accommodation in New Zealand at the recent TNT Golden Backpack Awards held in Sydney this month.
Manager Brooke Hargreaves said "the first place award came asa surprise considering the competition, and we couldn't have achieved this without the hard work from our incredible staff.
''It really is a great thing for tourism in the Bay of Plenty, and for the backpacking sector throughout New Zealand as a whole".
The Golden Backpack Awards state they are the original and most established awards dedicated to the independent travel sector, rewarding those companies who work hardest to make backpacking around Australia and New Zealand that extra bit special.
Almost 40 companies were recognised for outstanding customer service in both state and national categories.
Owners Sarah Meadows and Matt Young have owned the hostel since August 2012.
Pacific Coast Lodge is a 96 bed hostel which provides beach accommodation at affordable prices, catered towards backpackers, families, sports teams and school groups.
