A man entered a house in Waihi last night as the people inside slept.
The burglary has led Waihi Police to send out a message encouraging residents to be mindful of security.
About 9pm on Thursday, police received a report of a man entering a residential property as the occupants slept.
"When they woke, the man fled through an open window," police said.
Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Ambler said police conducted a scene examination on Friday and had identified strong lines of inquiry.
