The man accused of assaulting a motorist, stealing his car and crashing it into a powerpole while fleeing from police remains behind bars, while his alleged female co-offender remains in hospital.
Auckland man Conrad Oscar Rewita, 30, is alleged to have assaulted and robbed a man of his Toyota Corolla in the carpark behind the Kingsview building in Tauranga about 3am on Friday.
Rewita, 30, faced charges of aggravated robbery, recklessly operating a motor vehicle causing injury and drink-driving causing bodily injury when he appeared in Tauranga District Court today.
The reckless driving charge relates to his alleged actions during a police pursuit, before he allegedly lost control at the 14th Ave roundabout and crashed into a powerpole.
Police opposed bail but Rewita did not make a bail application and was further remanded in custody without entering pleas to next appear in court on May 31.
