Letters: 'Cyclists get over yourselves'

Generally speaking, cyclists are intensely disliked by many motorists and pedestrians alike, a reader says.

Good for John Douglas (Letters, June 27), I am so happy he has several properties, a multitude of cars which he is fond of plus, no doubt, a 'state-of-the-art' bicycle.

Does he expect the long-suffering Tauranga citizens to pay for his cycling indulgences?

It's the old story: I want it now but I don't ever want to pay for it.

Generally speaking, cyclists are intensely disliked by many motorists and pedestrians alike.

They are often arrogant and uncompromising sods with no bells on their cycles and abuse anyone who crosses their paths.

It is always someone else's fault whatever happens to them or what they perceive they haven't got.

The cyclist fraternity's current attitude to The Mall (Pilot Bay) Mount roading proposals verges on the unbelievable and their wish list is cuckoo-land stuff.

On the question of compulsory registration, warrants of fitness and bells for all cycles, why not?

There is no reason why cyclists shouldn't pay their way for extra privileges but the main reason is to identify and report bad behaviour and road rule breaches by cyclists.

Cyclists: Get over yourselves. Most people want nothing to do with you and certainly won't be rewarding you.
