Leaking gas bottle in Mt Maunganui

Police are searching for a leaking gas bottle that fell off the back of a truck in Bayfair this morning.

The commercial-sized gas bottle fell off the truck at the intersection of Girven Rd and Maunganui Rd about 9.15am

Tauranga Senior Sergeant Mark Holmes said initial reports suggested the top had been knocked off the bottle and gas was leaking.

A witness at the scene believed the bottle had been picked up by a member of the public, who then drove away.

Emergency services are rushing to Bayfair after reports of a possible gas leak.

A large, commercial- sized gas bottle is believed to have fallen off the back of a truck at the intersection of Girven Rd and Maunganui Rd.

The left-hand lane, heading towards Maunganui, is blocked.

Motorists have been advised to expect delays.
