Katikati crash: One dead after car and cyclist crash in Western Bay of Plenty

One person has died following a crash in Katikati involving a car and a cyclist, police say.

A police spokeswoman said the police were notified of the crash on Park Rd at 12.50pm today.

One person was killed in the crash.

Inquiries into the exact circumstances were ongoing and police were no longer at the scene.

A St John spokeswoman earlier said two ambulances and a helicopter were sent to the scene.

It was one of three serious crashes in Katikati today.

A police spokeswoman said police attended a single-car collision on Beach Rd in Katikati at 5.40pm.

One person had sustained serious injuries.

It was unclear whether the vehicle hit something or just came off the road, she said.

About 10.10am, a motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a car at the intersection of Earl Drive and Main Rd.

The car driver fled the scene.
