A fight between two Tauranga Boys' College has hit the internet, disappointing the school's principal.
A physical fight between two Year 10 boys at Tauranga Boys' College earlier this month was uploaded to social media site Facebook.
Principal Robert Mangan had not seen the video - you have to be a Facebook "friend" to access personal information - but he said the incident was "a case of two boys having a disagreement and settling the argument".
"[Playground fights] are certainly not common but unfortunately these things do happen and sadly it was videoed.
"The two boys have been disciplined."
Mr Mangan said there would be "serious consequences" for those responsible for uploading the material.
"I am not aware who posted it but there are serious consequences for the boys that share this information on social networking sites," Mr Mangan said.
The school was alerted to the online video after a parent shared it with another newspaper.
Mr Mangan was "highly disappointed" with how the situation was approached and said the situation had escalated unnecessarily.
"I am disappointed the parent did not approach us first but certainly both parents have since been involved and are aware of their sons' behaviours."
The incident came to light as Prime Minister John Key spoke out on bullying in schools after two publicised incidents - one in Australia and another in Whanganui.
However Mr Mangan said this incident "wasn't a case of bullying, it was two boys settling a dispute".
"John Key's stance on bullying is fine but there needs to be a good structure in place and more money in terms of support," he said.
